Sharks are fascinating species with distinctive attributes. They often show great curiosity when exploring their environments, including approaching glass panes in large aquariums. Although colorblind, perceiving the world in black and white, sharks are incredible swimmers and must continually move to ensure their breathing. A spill can put some small sharks into a stupor, causing them to fall asleep. Did you know that lightly nudging an overly intrusive shark’s nose can trigger a reaction where it will tilt its head back while opening its mouth before moving away? An impressive scene to observe, especially on video. The great white shark, which is scientifically called Carcharodon carcharias, is a carnivore that can reach 4.5 to 6 meters in length and weigh up to 2.5 tonnes, or even more. They are found in temperate coastal waters around the world, and they are the largest predatory fish in existence. Their white belly is the origin of their name.
