The Ursus Maritimus, or polar bear, is a mammal that can have a life expectancy of up to 25 years in the wild. After a nine-month gestation, this impressive carnivore gives birth to its young. An adult male can reach the considerable weight of 800 kilos and stand up to 2.60 meters high. Capable of reaching speeds of 40 km/h, the polar bear is also an excellent runner. Its natural habitat spans the vast expanses of ice and tundra in the Arctic, in areas such as Greenland, Alaska, Russia and Canada. Omnivorous, its diet includes seals in winter, and it varies its diet with fish, lemmings and berries in summer. But this majestic animal is threatened: human activity is altering its habitat through pollution and climate change. The reduction of the ice caps leads to the reduction of its territory and places it in danger of extinction.
